Garden Furniture to Avoid

Not all furniture meets the quality standards

When comparing products be careful.

White House have encountered many inferior products stated as suitable for outdoor use and conservatories which may well last a few years but will not stand the test of time.

Beware of descriptions which lead you to believe the product is teak e.g. described as outdoor grade hardwood or teak style etc.. If it is made from teak, it will say so and detail which type e.g. kiln dried mature plantation teak (grade A).

Beware of furniture which claims to be teak, but is too cheap! Teak is an expensive high quality product. Cheap offers often include timber illegally cut from forests that will be immature and not professionally kiln dried.

On these pages we show some of the worst examples:-

This bench was spotted in a high quality garden centre: -

Notice how it is bolted together rather than mortice and tenon jointed with dowels. Also the front rail which is held with only one bolt. This showroom model has already worked loose and turned from its proper location; imagine how quickly it will loosen when you sit on it a few times,. We believe this is dangerous as fingers could get trapped whilst sitting down. This bench scores 1.5/10 on our quality meter.

Watch this space as we intend to add further examples of poor quality products soon.
